Aggression, anxiety, reactivity, barking, and hyperactivity are almost never the result of an obedience problem. We do teach obedience commands in this program, but following obedience commands is NOT the primary end goal. Teaching strict obedience without addressing the underlying reason our dog is behaving the way that they are will not solve their issue, though it may help with managing it in the short term. It is not sustainable or fair for a dog to be under command all day for their entire lives. You got a dog because you wanted a companion, not a project.
Behavior is driven by our dog’s emotional responses to their experiences. The focus of the IBT program is on teaching your dog emotional regulation skills so that they are equipped to cope with their “triggers” without micromanagement from you. As part of the process, you will learn how to be your dog’s best friend. You will learn how to read your dog’s body language, as well as how to play with and interact with them in ways that foster a positive relationship and clear communication. I put a huge emphasis on play and relationship based training, but do utilize corrections to set boundaries when necessary, especially for safety concerns. I believe in using as little force as possible, because we want our dogs to enjoy doing what we ask, and make good decisions without being afraid of us. Positive reinforcement is vital for building confidence and positive associations. We can use treats, toys, pets, praise, or anything else your dog enjoys as a reward for good decisions!
Board & Train
Starting at:
$4700
The Intensive Behavioral Therapy Board and Train Program consists of four weeks where your dog is boarded in the trainer’s home. Staying in a home and being integrated into the trainer’s family ensures that your dog will have real life success and reduce the stress of staying in a kennel environment. Updates are sent home with pictures and videos throughout each week so you can keep up with your pup’s progress. Transitional private lessons, both in person and virtual, are included after graduation.
Pickup and drop-off is available within 2 hours of downtown Houston for your convenience!
The Intensive Behavioral Therapy Lesson Program with Tug & Trust Dog Training consists of 8 one on one lessons.
These are typically scheduled every other week, giving you plenty of time to work on the skills taught within the program before the following lesson. Lessons become more challenging as you make progress. You and your dog will be learning side by side.
